I had a post from Friend in Vic who has the pack of BB dogs
She did a runner from interstate when a destruction order was put on 2 of her dogs. They broke out to chase a rabbit when a jack russel got in the way, sad about that.
She fenced her new property boundary with a 2 metre fence to let the dogs have plenty of space to gallop around in.
When boundary riding one morning she found a hole had been scratched under her fence so she filled it in and pondered the event.
That night when returning to her abode she spotted a bigcat where the hole had been, she yelled at it and it departed.Once I found where a bigcat had hopped over the 7 ft NSW dog fence at the back corner of NSW, no trouble. Also plenty of reports of bigcats jumping onto roofs of houses, also TCs.
So why did the cat dig a hole when it could quite easy jump over.
I dont know if the cat dug the hole to get in or out.
Perhaps it jumped in and collected a bag of goodies to take home, and couldnt jump the fence with her ill gotten gains.
I have well documented the efforts of a female cat digging her way out of a partly covered rubbish hole( My web site Ango Dave and the Ango cat)
I have long known of bigcats in the Strathbogie ranges in NE Vic opening out wombat holes to make abodes. The dirt scratched out would be neatly piled at the side and flattened to make a bed.
Once I had a female cat digging large holes in my workshed floor to lie in to feed her babies,
It would be interesting to learn whether similar cats such as puma, leopard, and golden cats dig in this manner
Something to think about. Wally
