I see Kurts Kat got a bit of an airing again.
Never have I seen so much bull s... cooked up about so little.
Kurt was a dedicated deer hunter, the cat was shot on a reflex action. Kurt didnt eat cat so the cat was of no interest to him.
The front was blown off so he fed the yabbies with it.
Re the DNA I stated from the start that this would prove that it would be cattus. Been there done that, I had 2 specimens in 2001 and had DNA results so it was nothing new to me.
Much has been made about the demolishing of the front quarters and head wiith a 7mm magnum refle.
These writings have been made by people who know sweet bugger all about fire arms and the effect of a high power magnum round.
He used a 7mm magnum rifle, I dont know what brand but generalising magnums he would by using a heavier bullet, in excess of 150 grains and a general velocity of 3000 feet per second.
Using a 160 grain .303 bullet at not much more than 2000 feet per second I have blown horses heads off leaving a pair of ears and some jaw bone dangling on the neck.
Imagine what a bullet with 30% more velocity and power would do to a skull made of sliding plates and far less robust than a horses solid skull.
When working on a chiller buying kangaroo carcasses hopefulls have brought in carcasses that had parts blown off by HP rounds.
My rejoiner was to take them away, I could do my own skinning and boning.
What gets my goat is people who want to argue about the effects of bullets with someone who made a living with the things.
I read a load of crap on a pommey forum about Kurt being charged by the beast and shooting iy in the nick of time. I straightened them out on that point and they were so surprised at the truth.
Nothing like making a good story better, I did get a reply which was even more surprising
