I can understand why Fiat and the Agnellis did commissision the Global 2000 study about the "End of Growth" from some sympathetic professors; after all, they had a big problem with organized labor - and, Italy being what it was, an even bigger problem with disorganized Labor - demanding a growth in wages. Convincing the public that growth had to end was probably their plan A; plan B, in the case that plan A wouldn't work, would involve Prince Borghese and lots of dashing black uniforms... What I can't understand, however, is that, in spite of the fact that fear of global cooling long has been replaced by the exact opposite, global warming as the media's favourite men-bear-pig, Global 2000 and the Club of Rome are still highly respected in academic circles.

"Academics" respect all sorts of drivel. These days they can't even tell the difference between boys and girls.
