In a previous thread some time ago I mentioned that I ran my old Fairlane on hydrogen from a cell I built, the idea is catching on Toyota have announced a similar concept. They are doing the electrolysis in the fuel tank but with the anode and cathode on opposite sides so the gasses don't mix until they reach the engine. Most early versions just put the cell close to the engine air intake so minimal amounts of gas could escape to explode and then just pumped HHO into the air intake. Backfiring could have caused a bit of a problem but a bubbler would prevent flashback into the cell. This is probably better if dills might get behind the wheel.
