You never know when you might have to escape from the Gestapo (or other radical groups). Some Jewish families and groups still don't trust Christians, too many families still have stories of pogrom and persecution.
Our mob have been pretty lucky, when Nelson beat Napoleon at Waterloo (only about 40 Km from Heilbronn in germany, where the family had their business) they decided to open a branch in Bond Street, London. Following gold discoveries in Victoria my great,great, grandfather and his brother came to Australia to buy gold for the family's jewellery manufacturing business. Lucky for me they stayed here and opened other businesses, had they returned to Germany I don't fancy my chances as a Yid kid in 1940's Europe.

They also claimed that blood was used to make matzah (unleavened bread) but Jewish law forbids using even animal blood let alone human blood. Meat is salted to ensure blood is extracted and then the salt is washed off. |
