Dashcams record traffic offences - and that is, of course, a good thing re road safety. BUT, your dashcam can as easily record places you've been and things it has seen off the main highway. Things other arms of Big Government apart from traffic cops might well be interested in.
Not hard to think of circumstances where that could be very awkward indeed. If, hypothetically speaking, you're prospecting or recreationally driving and you inadvertently intrude into some 'authorised area' of, say, 'cultural/heritage significance' 🪃 in a State Park or wherever ...

In this modern age it is crystal clear to all but the congenitally retarded that we, poor benighted saps, are subjected to lies and propaganda on industrial scale. It is also true that we are the targets of snooping, prying and spying, likewise on industrial scale. Big corporations like banks are quite upfront about their profiling and tracking: the CBA even calls it "Know Your Customer". Now me, I'm not really political. Apart from that I can read and write, all I know is a little bit about electronics. So, with all these "gee whiz" electronic gizmos that are pushed upon us these days, what you have to bear in mind is this --> If the gizmo can record anything at all, that is if it has a memory and if it can communicate to the word-wide-web, then it spies upon you. And what it passes on gets stored away somewhere, forever, as evidence against you, "just in case". That's pretty much every electronic gizmo in existence these days. Think GPS, for one thing. But above all think mobile phones. Therefore, if you do not want your conversations and your whereabouts to be logged and pimped upon for all time, you absolutely have to to neutralise your mobile; block it from reporting upon you. But then, you will assuredly need it to make calls, send SMS messages etc when you're out and about, on the move, on the road. The dilemma is, how to keep spy-technology on a short leash? To block it when you want and yet to bring it back to life when needed? And no, simply switching off does not kill it.

Following some drama a couple of years back I installed CCTV at home, I can access it through my phone when away so it has lots of benefits, but when there is trouble in the area the police call in to see if I have any interesting footage. I don't worry about them monitoring me even though I do bend some rules I keep pretty well covered and nothing to illegal (not like when I was a young bloke riding around with a bunch of bikers. The Grace of God and good lawyers kept me out of any serious strife, despite some intense questioning and investigation)

Thanks Vince and welcome back.
Probably a little bit right. I remember leaving swimming practice because my mates were all outside revving their engines so I would take off with them and head for the pub. I missed Olympic selection by about one second and my coach said, "You could have made that if you stuck to training." My answer, "I have a life."

Bit unfair calling him a crazy rocket man, that looks like fun. I think I would do something better with a camera rather than holding a selfie stick
