Dinofelis might have been a primate specialist, sacrificing speed for brute force; contrary to what the movie 2001 suggests, hominids - especially the gnarly old males - are notoriously difficult to overcome for a standard cat , the Bili Ape isn't called lion killer for nothing. Dinofelis might have been massive enough to cope with prey that doesn't run away, but makes a stand. Lokotunjailurus is rather lighter and more cursorial, it might have been an ancestor of the homotheres (scimitar cats). The Miocene, a golden age for hominids as a clade (not much competitition from those pesky monkeys, yet), but a nightmare for hominid individuals, like this predator guild shows: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lokotunjailurus#/media/File:Africa_-_the_evolution_of_a_continent_and_its_large_mammal_fauna_(2006)_fig._11.pngWhatever wikipedia says, not all of those predators are carnivorans; the one in the middle and the big guy at the background might be hyaenodonts.
