There have been a multitude of new theories like this because we do have a few unexplained anomalies in our ᴧCDM model. The 2022 Nobel Prize was given to three people who worked on Bell's Inequality (Bell's Theorem) and their take was that the universe wasn't real - reality doesn't exist..
I did a paper on Bell's back in 2006 and put it into a book (it didn't sell well) because I came to the conclusion that it actually indicates the existence of a Supreme Being, a Creator. Many scientists don't want to believe that God exists (I don't understand why, failing to investigate is the most unscientific thing we can do) most physicists also understand that the universe could not exist without intelligent design; the ratios between particles and forces are just too finely tuned to ever happen by accident.
Other theories have proposed that the universe is a hologram or that it was made by an alien in a laboratory, they can believe we are in a computer generated matrix but they cannot accept an Almighty Creator.

...they can believe we are in a computer generated matrix but they cannot accept an Almighty Creator. Their fallen natures rebel against a God who wants them to voluntarily obey His laws.
