Rock ape stories used to be common but don't seem to have been mentioned much in the last 25 years, I also saw a report that the "gilled antelope" had also been found. I thought the report included a photo but could find no record of the animal through a Google search which still has it as a myth. The "gills" are actually extra nostrils that enable the animal to breath while its muzzle is underwater foraging. There are many animals that science does not know exist, despite the bureaucrats in their offices insisting things cannot possibly exist witnesses keep reporting sightings. Once of course the French Academy of Science ruled that meteors did not exist, "rocks do not fall from the sky." I suppose they can't be right all the time.

Could it have been a vu quang ox / Saola discovered in 1992? www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/a-wildlife-mystery-in-vietnam-620149/archive.org/details/isbn_9781412716512/page/232/mode/2up?q=%22gilled+antelope%22

Thanks Lurcherman, it was a fair while back so it might have been an article from the 1992 discovery; being a biological report I probably just browsed over it. Unfortunately I used to have the idea that biologists were just people who didn't have the math to do real science, mellowed a bit since those days.
