Errm. We have what's called a 'situation', people. It appears there are parties who are not at all happy with the 2nd Board. In order to avoid a 'rain of fire', I've been instructed to suspend the Quest's political material. More than this I better not say, for the moment. Except, let's wait a month or two and see what happens. The First Board, however, is okay for now. Science is inoffensive. Usually .. Till next. Ian

Obviously the censorship is reaching far and wide, someone must have said somthing politically incorrect and I know it would never be me. I will just have to start posting more stuff on the Prophecyline forum ( prophecyline.proboards.com/ ) that doesn't attract too many who might feel offended.

That is frightening! Free speech is dead and buried in this country. There is a glimmer of hope if the Australian Liberty Alliance can poll enough votes at the next election to frighten the crap out of the major parties. I call on you and all good people: support ALA at the next election. Let's face it; what have you got to lose?

I call on you and all good people: support ALA at the next election. Let's face it; what have you got to lose? Yes. Terrifying and true. Can't look to either of the big parties either - they sold out Australia long ago. The Greens are crazy, vicious antisemitic Isis-loving traitors. ALA's candidates are impressive. They're taking their time to select them, which is wise. Here's a good piece about them .. pickeringpost.com/story/the-rise-of-the-australian-liberty-alliance/5400Anyway we better not get 'political' in the Quest's one remaining science forum. I can talk a bit about now verboten stuff on FB.

Just a quick note to say that as much as I hated, opposed and disagreed with virtually all of the "political" content of the second board - this had nothing to do with me. Come on, I am sure at least some of you were thinking it was me? Anyway, I'll celebrate its demise with a nice latte; I'll have one for you Dennis and Vincent, too.

Let me guess; a nice cup of tea? Or are you one of those strange religious or health freak people who refuse to drink tea, coffee or chocolate?
In my philosophy tea is for old ladies and invalids (I am neither) and milk is for pussies and babies (again not me) and sugar is a slow working poison.

Now that a great change has overtaken Thylacoleo, maybe is time to look to the future? What sort of science content should there be? Note. I'm not a believer in major cryptids, meself - viz yowies, even thylacoleo, megalodon, Nessie et al. Thylacines .. yeah, ok, possibly, maybe. I'm iffy about modern climate change as a topic cuz it leads to flame wars and me, I'm not the world's best moderator. More shoot-on-sight. Palaeo-climate as a factor in extinctions etc, that'd be ok, however. Relevant.

I was once not a believer in cryptids until I saw one and even then I did not know what the animal was that I had seen, following years of research I concluded that the only animal Australian ever had that could have fitted the description was thylacoleo.
I have since spoken to many people who have had genuine experiences like mine and I have no doubt that not all the sightings are mistaken identity (some obviously are) and I don't tell people they are wrong but often suggest alternatives to what they think they have seen. Some concede they may be wrong but others are very certain and give very good descriptions; I now have no doubt that there are things out there waiting to be discovered.

Given the frequency and detail of "Yowie" sightings I believe there is a greater chance that they exist than the Thylacine continues to exist. A dog or mangy fox or dingo may be mistaken for a thylacine. I don't know of anything that could be mistaken for a "Yowie" (except perhaps a naked, extremely hairy man with a case of gigantism, and there can't be too many of those!)

Be amazing if it were so but how many camera traps would you say are 'out there', these days?
If you think about it, it's peculiar there are no hominid relatives still skulking about someplace. They haven't been extinct all that long. Homo floresiensis died out only about 12000 ya and they were practically just off the coast from the NW Australia.

If there's any interest i might plonk this topic into a thread of its own.
Got an idea there's stacks of related material from way back buried in the MAin Board.

Sorry, Dennis. That article is completely ridiculous.
For one thing, C14 dating can't date dinosaur material. You are going to get ages of around 40-50 kya because you are reaching the limit of C14 dating and C14 content of material of that age are indistinguishable from background noise. Secondly, that photo could be of anything - who is to say that it is a Triceratops horn?
WTF. This is "ancient-origins.net". I don't know why I even bothered to click the link, really.

There is no need to go to North America for a piggy-beak with a long ghost lineage; you already have one in Australia: darrennaish.blogspot.de/2006/05/dicynodonts-that-didnt-die-late.html (with the added benefit that unlike the Pleistocene trike, wich is highly dubious for several reasons, the Australian dicynodont is pretty much canon). BTW warthogs tend to loose their incissors and develop a ceratinous pad instead, maybe they will become the next piggy-beaks in a few million years?
